Fancy Guppies (Poecilia reticulata): |
| Guppies come in a variety of colors - red cobra, green cobra, yellow cobra, reds, golds, half black, blues, neon blue, yellows, sunset, pastel... Guppies will live best in an aquarium with an external power filter, 1/4 inch or less of gravel, and an aquarium heater adjusted to between 70 and 85 degrees F., but 74 degrees F. is best for the longevity of this fish. PH should be in the range of 6.5 - 7.5. Like most livebearers, guppies will do better with 1 Tablespoon of Aquarium Salt per 5 gallons of water in their aquarium. Guppies should be kept at a ratio of 1 male to every 2 females, otherwise the males will chase the females to death. You can keep them at a ratio of 1 male to every 1 female, but you should give the females lots of places to hide and rest. Guppies bear live young. Fry can be kept with the parents if they have lots of plants to hide in. Otherwise, put them in a net breeder or seperate (cycled!) tank. Feed fry decapsulated aretemia cysts often, and supplement with crushed flakes. Guppies will accept a variety of dry foods.
